Heath, d’04, g’09, a Hugoton native, works on behalf of 350,000 KU Alumni to strengthen the University of Kansas and connect Jayhawks worldwide. He oversees engagement initiatives with the Alumni Association’s 42,000 members; leads a 46-member staff; and manages the Alumni Association’s broad range of programs, benefits, services, and resources. He works closely with University and affiliate leadership on all campuses to strengthen and advance KU. He married a Jayhawk, Carrie Peterson DDS, and they have three children, Beau, Presley, and Claire.
Executive Assistant to the President and Coordinator of Donor Relations
Heather, j’06, received her bachelor’s degree in strategic communication from KU in 2006 and received a master’s in educational leadership and management in 2012. Heather helps with projects for the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors and acts as a stewardship coordinator for donors. She is also in charge of the Fred Ellsworth Medallion celebration and helps the president whenever needed! When she’s not working, her husband Jeff, son Mavrick, daughter Sienna and their two boxers keep her on her toes!
Adams Alumni Center
Laurie, c’98, coordinates a wide variety of business and social events that take place in the center. A Wisconsin native, she earned a biology degree from KU as a non-traditional student. She occasionally brings in “Show ‘n’ Tell” (live or otherwise) from the natural world to share with her co-workers. If Laurie is not working or volunteering, you’ll find her outside somewhere.
Senior Vice President of Hospitality Services
Bryan loves to see other people having fun! A true hospitalitarian, Bryan has a degree from JCCC in Hospitality Management and another from Baker University. Bryan is also certified through the Club Managers Association of America. After working at private clubs in Kansas City for seven years; he wound up here in 1986 to help manage the new Adams Alumni Center. Throughout his tenure he has worked in several aspects of the Association, including our membership area, where he invented the Jayhawk Society. He enjoys playing and singing rock music with his son’s band, Church, motorcycles, John Wayne and his grandchildren.

Ben directs the organization’s facilities department overseeing the functioning of building systems including mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, elevators and the facilities renovation projects. He also manages the maintenance of the building and grounds. In his spare time he likes to play golf and spend quality time with his lovely wife, Lindsey, son Zach, and two daughters Brookelynn and Charlee.

Laura joined the Association in 2013 after working for a local catering company in the sales and marketing department. As the Assistant Director for Hospitality Services, she coordinates staff and helps to plan and oversee events in the building. When not at work, she enjoys training and showing horses and keeping up with her busy family including her son Cooper.

Vice President of Alumni and Student Programs
Brad, b’09, g’11, oversees the Association’s alumni and student programs department. He works with a talented staff and hundreds of volunteers to reach students on campus and alumni across the country with creative programming. A Hoxie native and fourth-generation Jayhawk, Brad previously worked for Kansas Athletics in the marketing department and also spent time in Chicago working as a management consultant. He and his wife Laura, j’09, c’09, live in Lawrence with their son Theo. Brad enjoys traveling, reading, staying fit with a game of hoops, playing as much golf as possible and rooting on the Jayhawks.
Coordinator of Customer Service and Operations
Emily, c’11, graduated from KU with a degree in Applied Behavioral Science with a focus in Community Health and Development. As a student she showed her Rock Chalk pride as the University’s mascot Baby Jay. Following graduation, she moved back to Oregon and became involved with the Portland KU Alumni Network. Emily returned to Lawrence in 2013 to join the KU Alumni Association team. In her free time she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on her Jayhawks.
Assistant Director of Student Programs
Kiley, c’12, graduated with a liberal arts degree and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration. A native of Liberal, she is an avid Jayhawk fan. Kiley joined the Association in April, 2016, to assist with student engagement through the Student Alumni Association and Student Alumni Leadership Board. She enjoys cheering on the Jayhawks, cooking, reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Kelsey, c’12, a native of Hoxie, joined the Association in 2012. As assistant director of Kansas City and Wichita programs, she helps oversee programs and other efforts to engage alumni in these cities. Kelsey is an avid Jayhawk fan and in her spare time attends as many events as possible. When she is not cheering on her Jayhawks, she enjoys reading, running and cooking.

Danielle Hoover, c’07, was born into a family of KU fans and raised in the Wichita area. Her passion for the Jayhawks started at an early age, and after earning a degree in communication studies, she returned to Wichita where she lives with her husband, Darrick; their son, Hudson, and daughter, Harlow; and their two cocker spaniels. One of her favorite memories is being present when KU won the 2008 National Championship. Danielle is excited to combine two things she loves—KU and Wichita—in her position.
Assistant Director of Alumni Programs, Homecoming and Kansas Honors Program
Jacey, d’12, g’16, received her degree in sport management, followed by a master’s of higher education administration. She primarily oversees the Kansas Honors Program, advises the Homecoming Steering Committee and works with affinity networks. Originally from McPherson, Jacey was raised crimson and blue. As a student at KU, she never missed a men’s basketball or football game. When she’s not cheering on her beloved Jayhawks, she enjoys reading, cooking, shopping and spending time with friends and family.

Michelle, b’01, oversees academic programs and works to build partnerships and programs with campus units. She also is responsible for reunions, affinity networks and two alumni awards programs. Born and raised a KU fan, she enjoys traveling throughout the state and nationally to share her love of the University and connect with students and alumni. When she’s not spending time with her Jayhawk family, she is hanging out with her own family and friends.
Director of Legacy Relations
Joy, c’03, j’03, directs legacy recruitment efforts for the KU Alumni Association. Joy works to identify and recruit Jayhawk hopefuls from KU families, promote the Jayhawk Generations Scholarship and engage alumni in steering top-notch students to Mount Oread. When she’s not cheering on her beloved ‘Hawks, she loves to travel and spend time with her family—husband Kevin, e’05, m’14, their sons, Luke and Wyatt, and daughter, Reece.

Shortly after receiving her bachelor’s degree from KU in 2005, Betsy joined the Alumni Association’s membership team. She returned in 2012 for her dream job of working for KU in Kansas City as the director of Kansas City programs. Betsy leads the Kansas City network and connect local Jayhawks through events such as the KU Kickoff at Corinth Square and the Rock Chalk Ball. In her free time, Betsy loves to read, run, cuddle with her beautiful yellow lab, Huckleberry, and of course, cheer on her Jayhawks!
Jennifer Jackson Sanner
Senior Vice President for Strategic Communications and Advocacy, Editor of Kansas Alumni magazine
Jennifer, j’81, joined the Association staff in 1984 as staff writer and stumbled into a career. She and her husband, Bob, b’80, have three children: Rachel and Jackson, both proud KU business graduates, and Claire, who will follow her siblings to the Hill in August as a freshman and a distance runner for the Jayhawks.
Heather graduated from Kansas State University in 1999 with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. After pursuing a number of traditional roles in the profession, she discovered what she truly loved was writing and editing. That, coupled with her love of Lawrence and the Jayhawks, made accepting a position on the Association’s communications team a no-brainer. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out downtown with friends, traveling and cheering on her two favorite teams—the Jayhawks and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Steve graduated from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and holds a master’s degree from Columbia University. He has written for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Chicago Tribune, Field & Stream and other publications. He enjoys cycling and hunting (not at the same time) and spending time with his wife, Mary, and their three young children.

Lazz, j’86, began his journalism career as a newspaper sportswriter in South Florida, and joined Kansas Alumni magazine after returning to his hometown to be close to family. He enjoys reading, photography, travel and long hikes with the world’s greatest dog, Parker.
Valerie, j’94, designs a variety of publications for the Association, including brochures, booklets, posters, invitations, banners and anything you would want to put a Jayhawk on. Valerie dotes on her goofy Boston Terrier and enjoys reading and cooking.

Dan graduated from Colorado State University and joined the Association in 2013 after spending seven years with Kansas Athletics. He provides quality images, both moving and still, that showcase the Association’s many events. Outside the office, Dan enjoys travel, Jayhawk athletics events and outdoor activities. Dan and his wife Angie, b’04, g’07, have three daughters, Olivia, Eleanor and Ruby Cate.
Susan, f’91, is the Creative Director for the Association. She oversees publications including Kansas Alumni magazine. She also assists with branding and decor for special events. Susan has also served as president of UCDA, a national design organization. Both of her sons attended KU, and when she can pull herself away from work, she spends time in her glass studio or with her husband, Jerry, e’86, g’92.

Debbi, c’98, joined the Association in April 2010 and helps manage social media, website content and email marketing. She and her husband, former KU basketball player David Johanning, f’94, have a son, Cooper, and a rambunctious yellow labrador, Lucy. Debbi, a Wellington native, enjoys reading, live music and spending time with friends in her limited spare time. She also serves on the board of directors for the Lawrence Humane Society and the Social Media Club of Lawrence.

David, j’94, g’06, joined the Association in 2007 after establishing KU’s visual identity system as the university’s first director of marketing. He teaches an introductory course in KU’s minor in Leadership Studies, and he is a past president of K Club. When the former KU cross country All-American isn’t out running, he usually can be found cheering on the Jayhawks with his wife, Sara, d’96, their two girls, Sydney and Sophia, and their little boy, Austin.

Kara, j’10, graduated from KU with a journalism degree in Strategic Communications and joined the Association in 2014 to assist with broadcast emails and Kansas Alumni magazine advertising. Aside from cheering all things Jayhawk with her family, Kara enjoys painting, running, catering to her dog Mia and cat Tig, and being a newlywed with her husband, Cesar, c’12.
Mike, c’82, when he isn’t keeping the Web site running smoothly or assisting the less tech-savvy, devotes much of his time to his wife, Lisa, d’81, and his sons, Emmett and Travis.

Angie, b’04, g’07, oversees the development efforts of the KU Alumni Association. A native of the south-central Kansas town of Sawyer, Angie has spent her career working on KU’s campus. She has previously held roles with Kansas Athletics and KU Endowment in addition to her current role with the Association. She and her husband, Dan, are busy raising three little future Jayhawks: Olivia, Eleanor and Ruby Cate.

Danny joined the Association after graduating from KU in 2004 with a degree in sports management. Originally from Surprise, Arizona, by way of St. Louis, Missouri, and Defiance, Ohio, he attended KU on a football scholarship. Danny ended his playing career by competing in the 2003 Tangerine Bowl. Danny and his wife, Laura, live in Eudora with their son, Carter, and daughter, Hadley. Any spare time is spent chasing kids around, planning their next adventure or in search of good food & drink.

When not counting beans or squeezing blood from turnips, Dwight enjoys spending time with his wife, the incomparable Lisa, and daughter, Camille.
Jodi, a Nebraska native, joined the Association in July 2008. She assists with the monthly financial statement preparation, annual budget, yearly audit, as well as helping with many of the Association’s events. Jodi’s spare time centers around her family, daughters, Madeline and Macy, and husband, Brad. Jodi also loves to run, shop, read, travel and spend time with friends.
Originally from Erie, Karen, c’92, has been an accountant at the Association for several years and before that spent 22 years employed at KU. Her husband, Don, is an architect who retired in 2007 from KU with 35 years of service. Karen is an Extension Master Gardener in her spare time.
Marcia has been an indispensable part of the Association’s team since 1997, working as an office assistant, mailroom attendant and inventory control specialist. Marcia and her husband, Steve, have two daughters and four wonderful grandchildren. They love traveling and are avid KU basketball fans.

Vice President for Membership and Business Development
A western Kansas native, Teri joined the Association in 2011 after spending 20 years in association management in the golf industry, where she focused on marketing, member/donor relations, corporate sales and fundraising. She received her bachelor’s degree in marketing from Emporia State University and has lived in Lawrence since 1987. Teri has one son, Kendall, who graduated from KU with a degree in sport management. She enjoys entertaining family and friends, watching KU sports and working out at the local gym.
Assistant Director of Membership and Business Development
Tegan, d’05, g’09, received degrees in sport management and sport studies from KU. An Overland Park native, she lettered as a member of the women’s golf team and as a student manager for men’s basketball. Tegan oversees the Future Jayhawks and Flying Jayhawks programs, international networks, and assists with membership efforts. She most recently worked for Kansas Athletics as director of team operations for swimming, diving, track and cross country, and previously served as travel coordinator. Tegan enjoys traveling, sporting events, the Kansas City Royals, all things KU, her nephew Carter Lewis and baking for “Tegan Tuesday.”

Bill joined the staff in 1994, working jointly for KU Alumni and KU Endowment. He has two offices and two bosses, but fortunately a single database of alumni shared by the two associations and great support staff in both organizations. Bill has two daughters, Jen and Linda, c’10.
Records Specialist and License Plate Administrator
Julie joined the Association staff in 2003. She is a avid pet lover and loves going on walks and going to car shows. A big fan,s he loves cheering the KU basketball team.
Linda,’85, has worked for the Association’s records department since 1996. In her spare time, she loves to exercise and travel. Her favorite destination includes the Cape Cod area.
Helen, d’66, taught junior high math for nine years before working in her husband’s printing business and eventually joining the Association’s records department. She and her husband, Steve, have three grown children and seven grandchildren. In her spare time, Helen enjoys working in her vegetable garden and helping Steve with his model railroad activities.

Stefanie joined the Association’s records department in 1989. Her time away from work is spent with her husband and three sons attending numerous sporting events. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends, working out at the local gym and reading a good book.
