Saturday, Sept. 22

Homecoming Kickoff & Food Fest

5:30-7:30 p.m.
Adams Alumni Center

Kick off Homecoming Week with a feast at Food Fest, featuring snacks from the Student Alumni Network’s Restaurant Partners! Enjoy live performances by KU bands—and this is the only place to grab your FREE Homecoming T-shirt!


Sunday, Sept. 23

Cardboard Boat Regatta

1-3 p.m.
Potter Lake

Join SUA for the 4th annual cardboard boat regatta. Teams build a boat out of cardboard and race across KU’s Potter Lake for cash prizes and bragging rights. Prizes for fastest, fan favorite, and most creative team name. Food, music and fun provided!

Monday, Sept. 24

Campus Cupboard Grand Opening

4-5 p.m.
Kansas Union

The grand opening of the Campus Cupboard will take place in the Traditions Area of the Union, and refreshments will be provided. Student Affairs, CCO, Student Senate, and Just Food will be speaking about the history and impact of the cupboard at KU.

Homecoming Decor


Admire participants who have decorated a house, space, or object and showcased a part of campus that is special to them in the spirit of Homecoming.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

Party to the Polls

6-9 p.m.
The Oread Hotel

Midterms matter. And they’re coming up, fast (Nov. 6!). theSkimm is throwing a party to help you get you up to speed! They’ll have details on how and when to vote, big issues at stake, and the candidates on your ballot. Voter registration forms, stamps, and envelopes will also be available – this is National Voter Registration Day after all! Skimm / No Excuses swag will be there in plenty. They’ll provide pizza and you’ll be able to purchase additional food and drinks!

Sarah Smarsh: Heartland

7 p.m.
Liberty Hall

Journalist and KU alumna Sarah Smarsh will talk about her newest book, Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth, at this event sponsored by the Raven Bookstore and the Lawrence Public Library. Smarsh is featured in issue No. 5, 2018, of Kansas Alumni magazine.

Chalk & Rock

Chalk & Rock is a historic Homecoming event where student groups and campus organizations create chalk murals that represent themselves and the Homecoming theme.

The Great Mug Giveaway

9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Strong Hall Rooms 6 & 7

Take a multitude of mismatched coffee mugs, add gallons of hot chocolate with all the fixings, stir in a generous helping of school spirit, and you will have some idea of what to expect when staff and students of TRIO Supportive Educational Services (SES) host their 15th-annual KU Homecoming Mug Giveaway.

Health on the Hill

11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Kansas Union Plaza

Health on the Hill is the annual student wellness fair organized by Watkins Health Services and the Peer Health Educators featuring many campus resources and giveaways. Massage therapists will treat students to complimentary massages and free HIV testing will be offered onsite.

Jayhawk Jingles

5-7 p.m.
Adams Alumni Center

Jayhawk Jingles is a popular Homecoming event that pits student groups against one another to create the best skit or musical performance. Popular songs are changed to Jayhawk-themed acts.

The Connect Kickoff

7-10 p.m.
Burge Union

The Connect serves as a monthly opportunity for students to celebrate the completion of a successful month, learn about student organizations and available campus resources, listen to good music, enjoy free food, and connect with other members of the KU community. The event occurs the last Wednesday of each month during the fall and spring semesters in the Burge Union.

The J-School invites alumni back to their “Home on the Hill” to re-experience life at Stauffer-Flint Hall and reconnect with KU. Events take place Thursday and Friday.

Home Football Friday is a Student Alumni Network tradition. Students can enjoy free food from a Restaurant Program partner and connect with each other.

Hawks on Tap

3-5 p.m.
Adams Alumni Center

Hawks on Tap is a new event to celebrate the launch of the Jayhawk Career Network and the KU Alumni mentoring platform. Students 21+, faculty, staff and alumni will have an opportunity to meet and mingle at the Adams Alumni Center. The event will feature beers from breweries with Jayhawk ties.

Late Night in the Phog: 3-on-3 and NBA2K Tournaments

During Late Night in the Phog

Championship contests for both competitions will be included during the 34th annual Late Night in the Phog. Participants must be current KU students. There is no entry fee.

Capitol Federal Hall

Enjoy complimentary food and drinks and mingle with fellow business Jayhawks, faculty and current students at Capitol Federal Hall.

KU School of Engineering Tailgate

On the Hill

The KU School of Engineering will host a KU Homecoming tent on the Hill for the KU vs. Oklahoma State football game. Festivities will begin 2 hours prior to kickoff. Look for the School of Engineering banners and balloons on the Hill where there will be food, beverages, great giveaways and lots of familiar faces.

KU Law Homecoming Tailgate

On the Hill

Join Dean Stephen Mazza on the Hill for complimentary food and drinks during the annual KU Law Homecoming Tailgate. This is a great opportunity to visit with fellow alumni, as well as KU Law faculty and students.
