Chapter Handbook
Chapters and Association Membership
Help us grow! Chapter leaders and volunteers play an integral role in the acquisition and retention of KU Alumni Association members. It is incumbent upon the Association staff liaisons to work with chapter leaders to set membership goals. The Association staff liaison must articulate to board members the value of membership in the Association. Together, we will seek out new chapter and Association members to help everyone get involved with our initiatives. We will continually monitor and measure our results.
Membership Goals
- Once a chapter is established, it will strive to increase membership in the KU Alumni Association each year.
- All chapter board members are required to belong to the KU Alumni Association and are encouraged to further their commitment by joining the Jayhawk Society or becoming a Life Member of the KU Alumni Association.
Articulating and Refining Message
-
All chapter leaders should understand and support the Association's mission to strengthen loyalty, friendship, commitment and communication among all graduates, former students, current students, parents, faculty, staff and all other interested friends of the University of Kansas. Chapter events are made possible with the support of 40,000 dues-paying members. Increased Association membership will allow the Association to in turn increase its chapter support. Please see the membership overview section of the Association's Web site for additional information about joining and member benefits.
Suggested ideas for increasing membership through your chapter
- Encourage and challenge all chapter board members and officers to recruit five new members.
- Plan a young alumni event to expose recent graduates to the Association its network of accomplished alumni.
- Participate in the Chapter Membership Challenge each year.
Measuring Results
- Measure success of chapter events based on member attendance and new member acquisition.
- Association staff will benchmark Association membership, and chapters should benchmark their individual membership to determine progress.
