Why are alumni reunions important?
Reunions help alumni reconnect and strengthen ties with classmates and the University.
Which reunions are hosted annually by the Alumni Association?
The KU Alumni Association initiates three annual reunions:
1. A silver anniversary celebration of the 25-year class
2. A golden anniversary celebration of the 50-year class
3. A Gold Medal Club Reunion, which celebrates 50-plus years as a KU graduate. To find more information on the Gold Medal Club, click here.
Who is involved with reunion planning efforts?
Reunion activities usually are planned with the assistance of a volunteer planning committee of reunion group peers. If need be, the Association’s staff advises reunion planning committee members on items such as dates, formats/schedules, locations, lodging and fee structures. Staff also procures venues and caterers, develops and processes announcements, accepts reservations and provides all staffing necessary to execute reunion events.
If you are interested in sitting on your respective 25- or 50-year reunion committee, we want to know! Please email your interest to kualumni@kualumni.org and we will reach out to engage your help.
When are reunions typically held during the year?
The 50-year and Gold Medal Club reunions historically have coincided with the Kansas Relays weekend in April. The 25-year reunion is planned in conjunction with Homecoming. A KU Spirit Reunion also will be held every other year during the KU versus Kansas State home football game weekend.
How can the Alumni Association assist with my reunion?
The Alumni Association assists living groups, special interest groups or class-year reunions not among those initiated annually. We can put you in touch with the correct individuals on campus or within the community, suggest caterers, help identify venues and find fellow classmates.
The Association may be able to offer additional staff support as well. Contact information and staff support is determined on a case-by-case basis. To protect the privacy of our alumni, participants must follow the Association's guidelines when handling contact information.
What are the costs associated with planning a reunion?
Reunions are self-supporting in that registration and event fees are applied at the time of registration. Registration fees offset expenses for print materials, postage, facilities, equipment, labor and other expenses associated with holding special events.
What hotels are available in Lawrence?
Identifying lodging for out-of-town guests is an important need. For annual reunions hosted by the Association, a block of rooms will be reserved for use by attending guests. These arrangements will be detailed in registration information.
