Chancellor surprises 2015 Truman Scholar

Posted on Apr 15, 2015 in Campus News and News

Ashlie Koehn is KU’s 18th Truman Scholar, but we’re betting she’s the first to learn about her award from the Chancellor via Skype. The KU junior from Burns is studying this semester in Kyrgystan, so getting word to the newly minted Harry S. Truman Scholar provided an opportunity to get creative. Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little rose to the occasion, contacting Koehn with the news just before dinner. Koehn, who had already been named a Udall Scholar earlier this month, is majoring in environmental studies, economics and international studies. We’ll let you watch her priceless reaction and genuine surprise in the video chat below or on YouTube. Congratulations, Ashlie!
