Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos says his time at the University of Kansas helped shape his worldview and set in motion his political career.
Santos returned to campus Monday to receive the Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. About 500 people attended his appearance at the Dole Institute of Politics, where director Bill Lacy asked him questions about his career and KU experiences.
“It was here that the seed was put, and it has been growing for the past 40 years,” he said, according to this story in the Lawrence Journal-World.
Santos was the first sitting head of state to visit the Dole Institute.
