Have you heard of Jackson Byam? No? The latest blue-chip recruit to commit to the University of Kansas, he held a press conference on May 1 to announce his decision.
Jackson, a senior at East Grand Rapids High School in Grand Rapids, Mich., made his choice in front of his classmates by choosing the KU hat over the other finalists, Oregon and Michigan State. He plans to major in English and graphic design.
Stellar recruiting by the KU Office of Admissions and associate director Heidi Simon helped convince Jackson that KU is a great place to be, and alumni had a role in the decision, too.
Jackson attended the KU vs. TCU basketball game this season at Allen Fieldhouse, and he said that being in the Phog was nearly a religious experience. “That night, I went to the Burger Stand with my dad and cousin and met at least ten wonderful, kind and brilliant KU alumni of all ages who sang the praises of Lawrence and the university,” he said. “Each and every one of them told me that KU was the best choice for me.”
Thank you to our wonderful alumni who continue to help recruit the most talented students to the Hill!
