Perez Named Senior Vice President, Product Management at Motorists Insurance | Insurance Journal

Randy Perez, l’97, has been hired as senior vice president of product management for Columbus, Ohio-based Motorists Insurance Group. Perez comes to Motorists from Horace Mann, where he spent three years as vice president of pricing and product management. With more than 20 years of experience in the personal lines industry, Perez brings a new perspective to Motorists that will further its strategic focus on personal lines business.

Goertzen joins Heartland Health Care Clinic | Salina Post

Memorial Health System has announced that Cayle Goertzen, M.D. has joined the medical staff of Heartland Health Care Clinic. He began seeing patients, of all ages, on Monday. Goertzen, h’97 MD’04 m’08, is an experienced family medicine physician with obstetric and surgical skills.

Emily Taylor Center director to retire | The University of Kansas

The longtime director of the Emily Taylor Resource Center for Women & Gender Equity at the University of Kansas will retire at the end of the fiscal year. Kathy Rose-Mockry, d’78 g’85 PhD’15, will retire from the university June 30. As director of the Emily Taylor Center since 1998, she has developed and presented innovative and significant programs. “Kathy has had an important impact on the university and Lawrence community through her leadership of the Emily Taylor Center,” said Jennifer Hamer, vice provost for diversity & equity.Read full article.

 

Bob Dole promoted to honorary colonel | Great Bend Tribune

Kansas First District Congressman Roger Marshall in the House Tuesday introduced legislation to authorize the honorary promotion of former U.S. Senator Bob Dole, ’45, to the grade of colonel in the U.S. Army. Meanwhile, Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran submitted the same legislation on the Senate side. “Senator Bob Dole embodies what it means to be a Kansan and an American,” Marshall said. “He has dedicated his entire life to this country and our state. There is absolutely no man more deserving of this honorary promotion than Senator Dole. He has been a champion for our military and has the full support of the Kansas delegation and the U.S. Army.”Read full article.

 

2019 William Allen White award goes to AP’s Sally Buzbee | The State

Sally Buzbee, the executive editor of The Associated Press, is this year’s recipient of the William Allen White Foundation award, which recognizes individuals for outstanding journalistic service. The foundation announced Tuesday that Buzbee, a Kansas native and 1988 graduate of the University of Kansas journalism school, will receive the award April 11 in Lawrence, Kansas.
