The only thing cuter than little kids riding bikes is little kids in Jayhawk gear riding bikes.
Children in the Kansas City area were invited to our annual ‘Hawks, Helmets and Handlebars event last Saturday. The event, hosted by the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the KU Alumni Association and sponsored by Liberty Mutual, helped promote bicycle safety for kids while providing a fun morning activity at the Edwards Campus.
Nearly 200 future Jayhawks brought their bikes for activities including bicycle safety checks and an obstacle course. All participants received a brand new blue bike helmet. After completing the obstacle course, the bicyclists received a certificate signed by Big Jay.
Officers from the Overland Park police and fire departments were also on hand to pass out special gold badges to the kids and give tours of a fire truck.
Thanks to our chapter volunteers and staff members who volunteered their time on Saturday at this event, and thanks to all the families who attended!
