Alumni play an important role in helping to recruit new students to the University of Kansas, and the KU Alumni Association works closely with the KU Office of Admissions in these efforts. Each year, the Office of Admissions staffs recruiters to represent KU throughout the state of Kansas an in key territories across the country. We asked each of the admissions reps to share a little information with us so alumni can get to know them.
Today’s post features Christie Holland, j’13, c’13, a native of Hutchinson. Christie is the Transfer Admissions Representative and manages recruitment from the Kansas City Metropolitan Community Colleges, Johnson County Community College, Kansas City Kansas Community College and Donnelly College.
What is your fondest memory of your time at KU?
Spending a snow day sledding down the Hill with my friends during my senior year.
What clubs, organizations or traditions did you participate in as a student?
I was highly involved in Greek Life at KU and loved the time I spent on the Executive Board of the Panhellenic Association. I also enjoyed going to basketball games at Allen Fieldhouse, volunteering at the local library and participating in a local writer’s group.
Name one class you think every KU student should take and why.
A foreign language. While French classes were the most academically challenging courses I’ve ever taken, they were also the most rewarding for me when I studied abroad.
When did you know you loved KU?
During my first KU football game when we sang the Alma Mater.
What’s the most important piece of advice you give prospective students?
Step outside your comfort zone. There are plenty of opportunities to so at KU so I highly encourage students to take advantage of at least one of them.
Tell us about your involvement with your local Alumni Association chapter and describe how this network can help prospective/current students.
I heard about my current job through a fellow KU alumna, and I hope to someday provide a similar opportunity for another KU graduate.
