“Superhero” scholar lauded as one of country’s best

40 under 40 Inspiring Professor 2015 It’s unlikely that he wears a cape to class or has a big-budget movie franchise in development, yet Michael Faggella-Luby, PhD’06, associate professor of special education at Texas Christian University, is still considered a “superhero” by his students.

Thanks to their rave reviews, Faggella-Luby, a doctoral fellow at the Center for Research on Learning while at KU and a former high school administrator and English and chemistry teacher, was named to the “40 Under 40: Professors Who Inspire” list compiled by the financial literacy website NerdScholar, a feature of nerdwallet.com.

Faggella-Luby was described by his students as “amazing, engaging and passionate,” and one added that he “consistently made coming to class an enjoyable experience, and I always left feeling like I learned a lot.”

Faggella-Luby told the award administrators that he draws inspiration from his own children, whom he hopes “grow up in a world that educates each child to become interdependent, self-determined, lifelong learners.”
