Clyde Lovellette, who led KU to the NCAA basketball championship in 1952, will be inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday, Nov. 18 in Kansas City. Kansas Public Radio at the University of Kansas produced a nice piece reflecting on Lovellette’s remarkable career (he remains the only player in NCAA history to lead the national in scoring en route to a national championship).
Listen in as KPR’s Greg Echlin interviews ’52 teammate Bill Houglund and Danny Manning, an NCB Hall of Fame inductee who led the Jayhawks to the championship in 1988, as they discuss Lovellette’s impact, KU basketball tradition and the role of the star player. It’s a gem for Jayhawk fans. Listen in to the interview online at kansaspublicradio.org.
