Salina Steak Out 2015

The Salina Steak Out has become a favorite summer tradition for Jayhawks in North Central Kansas. More than 140 alumni and friends enjoyed KU camaraderie on Friday, May 29, and heard a campus update from Rick Ginsberg, dean of the School of Education. Dr. Doug Girod, executive vice chancellor, spoke about the KU Medical Center and head football coach David Beaty shared his excitement for the upcoming season. Former Jayhawk athletes Alonzo Jamison, c’07, and Jake Sharp, d’10, were on hand to share some of their greatest memories of KU.

Special thanks to the Wilson family for once again hosting this wonderful event; to Jim Trower, b’77, North Central Kansas network leader; and to Butch Billips, assoc., and America’s Best Steaks for providing a delicious meal.

North Central Kansas Jayhawks gather for Salina Steak Out

Posted on Jul 7, 2014 in Alumni News and News

The fifth annual Salina Steak Out on June 21 brought more than 120 Jayhawks together to enjoy good food, good music and good news from the Hill.

The large crowd was treated to updates from Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little, Director of Athletics Sheahon Zenger and Dale Seuferling, president of KU Endowment. Former KU basketball coach Ted Owens was also on hand to share some of his treasured memories. And, the popular Lawrence-based cover band Sellout provided live music and dance tunes.

Fun fact: Danny Loental, f’05, plays saxophone and sings with Sellout. The morning of the event, he posed this question on his Facebook page: “Can I ride my bike 100 miles this morning and finish in time to shower, drive to Salina and play with Sellout at the KU Alumni Association’s Steak Out at 5:30?”

In case you’re wondering, one CAN ride a bike a hundred miles and still have enough time to drive from Kansas City to Salina—and still have enough energy to entertain the crowd.

Special thanks to the Wilson family for once again hosting this wonderful event; to Jim Trower, b’77, North Central Kansas Chapter leader; and to Butch Billips, assoc., and America’s Best Steaks for providing a delicious meal.

Jayhawks have fun at the Salina Steak Out

Posted on Aug 1, 2013 in Alumni News and News

More than 150 Jayhawks gathered in central Kansas this past Saturday, July 27 for the annual Salina Steak Out. For the fifth year in a row, the Wilson family hosted the popular event at their ranch near Salina. Jim Trower, b’77, president of the North Central Chapter of the KU Alumni Association, led the planning of the event. Butch Billips, assoc., of America’s Best Steaks proved the company’s namesake and provided the main course for dinner. Both men are Life Members and members of the Presidents Club.

After dinner, Jayhawks were treated to updates from Mt. Oread by Jeff Vitter, provost; Andrea Hudy, assistant athletics director for sports performance; and KU basketball legend Bud Stallworth. KU head softball coach Megan Smith and head swimming coach Clark Campbell also attended. Following the short program, the KC All Stars entertained the crowd with live music well into the night.

Thanks to the KU alumni, fans and friends who attended this great event!
